LA VEINE: 8 HABITS OF INCREDIBLY HAPPY PEOPLE

8 HABITS OF INCREDIBLY HAPPY PEOPLE

A year ago, my very wise boyfriend told me that happiness comes from the inside and that it has little or nothing to do with what actually happens in our lives. I was incredibly depressed at the time and this sounded like the stupidest thing I had ever heard: my life was terrible, I hated what I was doing, I felt like my existence was worthless, pointless, meaningless and it was not my fault! I was unhappy because of my teachers. Because of the weather. Because... of circumstances. But there he was, saying that somehow, someone like me could be happy. Regardless of what happened, happiness could and would come from the inside. It was hard to believe in this at the time but oh boy, he was so right.
Life is a bunch of complicated events, I have terrible days, I still hate what I'm doing at the moment and sometimes, I wish I could be a different person. But happiness, the way I see it, is not about living the perfect life; it's about being able to look on the bright side and being grateful for what we have. I don't believe in higher powers, but I do believe that what we give to the world, we get back. And the truth is, a year later, I do feel happier. So if you want to know more about how I did it, keep scrolling!

1. Happy people never complain. I know, I know, this sounds like a pretty hard to do and that's because it is! In fact, I think that a healthy dose of complaining and talking about things that bother us to a friend is not only healthy, but necessary. However, constantly whining about the smallest things will have the opposite effect and lead our focus to stuff that would otherwise be absolutely irrelevant. I am currently making an effort to complain less, in order to also think less about what bothers me.

2. Happy people stay positive. As I said, what comes around comes back around: if you cherish your friends, they will do the same for you; if you work hard, you will be rewarded in the future. So just stay positive: if the present is bad, think about what would be a happy future for you and work for it. Start with the smaller things: maybe your future self is someone who drinks lots of water or makes their bed every morning. Today is a great day to start becoming that person!

3. Happy people don't sweat the small stuff. When you're busy working, spending time with friends, family and enjoying life, there is no time to worry about smaller things that could otherwise completely ruin your week. Make sure you don't get too obsessed with those issues while you're "looking" for your happiness; they could definitely slow you down.

4. Happy people see the uncertain future as a challenge. Not knowing what's coming next used to make me anxious but right now, all I am is excited. It obviously depends on where you're at in life but right now, I could be or do anything and that's amazing! All the roads are wide open. If you're lucky enough to be in the same position or even if you just don't know where you're going on vacation next summer, make sure you enjoy the uncertainty.
5. Happy people take time to better themselves. Nobody ever knows everything they need to know; there is always something interesting to learn, or a new skill to develop. Taking care of ourselves and spending some time growing as human beings is one of the biggest sources of happiness I can imagine, so maybe it's time to learn a new language or dedicate yourself to those italian dramas on your watchlist. I know I want to re-learn french as soon as possible!

6. Happy people take care of others. Not only because we get worried when our loved ones are not ok, but also because doing good is another great source of happiness. If you feel worthless, I highly recommend that you do some volunteering at a charity project. Sometimes we have to feel like we're needed by others in order to be reminded of our own worth as individuals.

7. Happy people get out of their comfort zone. You don't know how much joy a new, "uncomfortable" adventure can bring you until you try it. So whatever is going through your mind while reading this, this is the time to just start doing it! Maybe it is something as simple as taking the first step and talking to your crush, or maybe it's starting a blog; just make sure you do what makes you uncomfortable and have fun. If it goes wrong, at least you tried; but what if it turns into something great?

8. Happy people are thankful. Gratitude is key, people. I had such an exhausting day today, and I felt incredibly frustrated with life at a certain point. But at the end of the day I am so, so grateful for being healthy, for the people I have around me, for feeling loved, for this incredible blogging adventure and for being able to stress about trivial things without worrying about not being safe. When we look around there is really so much to be thankful for, so make sure you take a good look!

2. As pessoas felizes mantêm o pensamento positivo.

8. As pessoas felizes são gratas. A gratidão é essencial.
Do you consider yourself a happy person? Is there any habit that helps you keeping a positive mindset?
Consideram-se pessoas felizes? Têm algum hábito que vos ajude nesse sentido?

  9. I agree 100% - the savings have little to do with what is going on in life :) Fortunately, it's a very ephemeral state - as soon as I start to enjoy something it looks for some misery :(

  11. I think, however, that we also have to accept that there cannot always be happiness. Sometimes we have to feel 'negative' feelings and I think we should also allow ourselves to be in a bad mood sometimes.

  12. Yes to all of the above =o) I also recently went through a unhappy period and thanks to yoga and meditation I felt like I didn't fall down the deep depression hole as I could have. I am working on #1 still and catch myself here and there when I start to complain. Thanks for sharing your story =o)

Both the person complaining & the person listening. I think a lot more people would be happier if they took note of this. Thanks for sharing this, I hope a lot of people read it & find some happiness too! x

  92. Seeing the uncertain future as a challenge definitely resonates with me. I was raised to always think worst case scenario to "prepare" for uncertainty, but it's just made me anxious and paranoid. Instead, it's much more helpful and healthy to consider the potential good and see the future as a challenge to overcome. Great suggestions! Thank you!
